Rudninku Vartai **

The R?dnink? Vartai hotel is situated in the center of Vilnius, in a genuinely historic place. During 1503-1522 R?dnink? gate and the city?s wall were built in the same place as ordered by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Alexander to defense Vilnius from the Tartars. Inside the hotel and in its courtyard you can see one of the remaining sections of this defensive wall. The R?dnink? gate was one of the strongest fortification elements of the town ? it was a powerful defence construction comparable with a castle and also the official city entrance.
