Bratislava, con medio millón de habitantes, está a unos 60 kilómetros de Viena y a
200 de Budapest, unidas las tres por la historia y un mismo río: el Danubio.
Qué ver y qué hacer
La urbe está en las estribaciones de los Pequeños Cárpatos, en un territorio
tradicionalmente activo en lo histórico y comercial. Tiene una activa vida económica, con
industrias químicas, de automoción y mecánicas.
Un viejo castillo, ubicado sobre un cerro, domina esta ciudad en la que aún se aprecian
edificaciones diversas que atestiguan el pasado, en el que tuvo momentos especialmente
florecientes, como los días en los que perteneció al imperio austrohúngaro.
Denominada como Pressburg (Presburgo) por los alemanes, y Pozsony por los húngaros, desde
1919 la ciudad quedó con el nombre de Bratislava.
Se dice que la población resultó relativamente poco dañada en la Segunda Guerra Mundial pero
que -paradójicamente- el desarrollismo posterior acabó con diversos elementos de su
patrimonio artístico. Aún así merece la pena recorrer y hacer turismo por esta capital de
Eslovaquia.
